Laser Cutting Machine Copper Nozzle Influence On Laser Cutting

Sep 13, 2022

Relationship between copper nozzle and cutting quality

If the center of the copper nozzle is not concentric with the center of the laser beam, the following problems may occur:

1. The cutting section is uneven. When the auxiliary gas is ejected, because the copper nozzle and the laser head are not concentric, the gas flow is not uniform, and it is easy to have molten stains on one side of the cutting section. This phenomenon occurs less for thin plates less than 3mm. When cutting plates more than 3mm, its impact is more serious, and sometimes it can not be cut.

2. Small angle cannot be cut. When cutting workpieces with sharp corners or small angles, local over melting of workpieces may occur due to uneven gas injection.

3. Perforation is unstable. During piercing, the heat is not uniform, and the piercing time is not easy to control. When drilling thick plates, the over melting may occur due to poor time control, and the piercing conditions are not easy to master, which has a small impact on the piercing of thin plates.

The concentricity between the center of the nozzle and the laser is one of the important factors that affect the cutting quality, especially when the workpiece is thicker. Therefore, the concentricity of the nozzle center and the laser must be adjusted to obtain a better cutting section.

How to choose the aperture of nozzle?

The aperture of the nozzle is φ 1.0mm- φ 5.0mm, which are common in the market at present φ 1.5mm and φ 2.0mm, the difference is as follows:

1. For the thin plate below 3mm, the cutting surface is generally required to be thin, and it is usually selected φ 1.5mm, if used φ 2.0mm, the cutting surface will be thick, and it is easy to leave molten stains when cutting the corner.

2. For thick plates above 3mm, the laser power is high, the heat dissipation is slow, and the cutting time is also long. If used: φ The 1.5mm nozzle has a small pipe diameter and a small gas diffusion area, so it is not very stable in use. Recommended: φ 2.0mm, large gas diffusion area, slow gas flow rate, stable cutting.

3. The hole diameter of 2.5mm and above is generally used for cutting thick plates above 10mm.

When the nozzle aperture is selected to be larger, the protection of the focusing lens will be relatively poor, because there will be more splashes of residues during cutting, which will have a high probability of splashing onto the lens, and the life of the lens will be shorter.

It is worth noting that when the nozzle is deformed or there is residue on the nozzle, the cutting quality will be affected. Therefore, when there is stain on the nozzle, it should be cleaned in time. The nozzle itself has high accuracy, so it must be installed accurately. If the cutting quality changes significantly due to nozzle problems, replace the nozzle in time.
